화면 속에 장면을 일시 정지,
그림 속 대상은 마치 어떤 일이 일어나기 직전, 순간에 떠돈다.
영화의 스틸컷과 같은 함축된 이야기와 마음을 머금은 채 화면에 남아 있다.
선명하지 않은 붓질, 지워진 표면, 덧칠된 색은 무언가를 말하지만 가리어진 방식이다. 만들어 낸 것을 다시 없애고 또 덧입힌다. 시간이 쌓이듯 화면에 층이 생긴다. 예상한 끝과는 다른, 미끄러져 나온 어떤 표면. 과정에서 원래의 장면은 생략되거나 흐려진다. 뚜렷이 보이지 않을수록 더 오래 머물게 하는 회화를 만들고 싶다.
<창백한 안개를 걷어내는 방법>은 보이는 것에 대한 인식을 일깨우고자 하는 시도이다. 어떻게 보느냐에 따라 달라지는 시선은 작업 앞에 서성이게 한다. 이 흐릿함 앞에 멈춰 서서, 떠오르는 질문은 가지를 뻗어간다. 그 순간 회화는 보는 것을 넘어 장면을 느끼는 경험이 된다.
모든 것이 분명하지 않은 안개 속에서, 장면 앞에 오래 머물다 보면 다시금 보이는 것이 있다. 작업들이 마음을 가로지르는 시선 너머의 사건이 되기를 바란다.
A scene is paused.
Figures in the paintings seem suspended hovering in the moment just before something unfolds. Like stills from a film, they retain condensed narratives and emotional weight.
Blurred brushstrokes, erased surfaces, and layered colors speak, but in veiled, elusive ways. Each image is made, then undone, and layered again. Like time settling into sediment, the surface accumulates.
Unexpected textures emerge surfaces that slip away from anticipated endings. In the process, the original scenes are obscured or left out. The less is clearly shown, the longer we are compelled to remain.
‘How to Clear the Pale Fog’ is a study in perception, a quiet attempt to awaken how we see what we see.
Perspective shifts with the act of looking. In front of these works, the viewer hovers, unsettled.
Questions begin to branch outward in the presence of this haze. And in that moment, painting moves beyond vision-becoming something we experience and sense.
In a fog where little is certain, the longer we linger, the more begins to reappear. I hope painting becomes not just an image, but an event-unfolding beyond the gaze, cutting across the interior landscape.
